Dr. Kamira Barry is a distinguished Fisheries Scientist and Environmentalist with extensive experience in aquaculture, aquatic ecology, and sustainable fishery management. He has led and contributed to numerous research projects both in Uganda and internationally, focusing on water quality, aquatic animal health, biodiversity conservation, and environmental sustainability. He currently engages in applied fisheries research and community outreach programs, promoting sustainable aquaculture practices and environmental stewardship among farmers, students, and local stakeholders. Dr. Barry has collaborated with national and international institutions, including the National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRRI) in Uganda and the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences, contributing to projects that monitor fish stocks, map ecologically sensitive areas, and improve aquaculture productivity through innovative techniques such as probiotics and biofilters. Dr. Barry earned his Ph.D. and MSc in Agriculture (Aquaculture) from Nanjing Agricultural University in China, and a BSc in Biochemistry & Zoology from Makerere University in Uganda. Throughout his career, he has delivered scientific training, engaged with policymakers, and conducted workshops for farmers to enhance aquaculture practices and aquatic biodiversity conservation across Uganda. He is recognized for his expertise in fishery science, research leadership, and environmental management. Dr. Barry is fluent in English, Lusoga, and Luganda, with working knowledge of Swahili and Chinese. His work is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, including research on microbial communities in aquaculture systems, antibiotic impacts on water quality, and methane-generating nitrifiers in aquaculture tanks.
